The Case for IMA's Owner Advocacy ApproachIMA looks at the responsibility of building a yacht with a unique focus. Rather than the narrow scope of constructing a vessel, IMA chooses to follow the expansive and infinitely customizable path of Owner Advocacy. IMA carefully represents the Owner’s interests and intent regarding the yacht at every step from concept development to daily operation of the vessel after delivery, through routine maintenance and repairs, and even to eventual sale of the vessel after many years of enjoyment. IMA believes the best way to manage building a yacht is to be mindful of the Owner’s intent for the entire lifecycle of yacht ownership, constantly checking for conflicts in planning and execution. Taking the approach of a long-term Owner’s Advocate rather than a short-term project manager, IMA is proactive in protecting the asset and the client. IMA knows this approach results in a smooth project and a finished vessel that exactly meets the expectations of the Owner. This approach maximizes return on the Owner’s investment by minimizing delays, acrimony, finger-pointing, and mistakes during concept, bid and construction phases of the project. Another significant point is that it also eliminates the disruption and confusion that often ensues when a yacht is handed over to her crew or a management company following its completion. IMA builds an ongoing relationship, one that serves to insure the Owner’s enjoyment of their yacht after delivery. IMA’s unique methodology, supply both the yacht’s Owner and the design and construction team with critical information on a timely basis. IMA has developed this approach successfully through a number of recent yacht construction projects. As Owner Advocate, IMA provides a continuous presence in the decision-making process to insure that all decisions support the Owner’s stated intent for the vessel. Data from all sources is continuously integrated into a single, coherent format, which reduces the risk of errors due to erroneous or superseded information. IMA effectively negotiates on the Owner’s behalf utilizing the broadest base of resources, research and experience in the industry. Utilizing this approach, IMA has a demonstrated track record of reducing the cost of yacht ownership, both during the design and construction phases and throughout its operation. This is accomplished by reducing the risk of delays, mistakes and cost overruns, and by minimizing vessel downtime through appropriate maintenance scheduling. Utilizing IMA’s single-source support program reduces costs associated with familiarizing contractors, crew and suppliers with the vessel. The cost of contracting with IMA is minimal in light of the savings that will be realized in construction and operating expenses and in the increased value of the yacht. IMA greatly streamlines the process of yacht construction. In addition, IMA offers these important strengths: Leadership, trust, accountability, organization, innovation, excellent verbal and written communication skills, familiarity with high-tech communications; value-centric decision-making, and detail orientation. IMA company principals are especially experienced in yacht construction (as opposed to construction of commercial vessels) and exceptionally well-connected with the yachting industry. Our focus is to serve the Owner to the best of our abilities using knowledge and experience gained though more than 125 years of combined experience in the yachting industry. Traditional Approach:
In traditional project management, key issues are grouped within project stages, and then decisions are made in a linear sequence. IMA’s Owner Advocacy Approach:
IMA’s approach uses the “Owner’s Intent” to create a vision that drives all choices and decisions influencing the overall project. |
